Jordan says Syrian refugees cost over $7 bln

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Syrian refugees influx has cost the country more than seven billion US dollars since 2011, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Ensour said Jordan suffered great consequences in light of the influx of large numbers of Syrian refugees which have exceed 1.3 million.

"The influx of Syrian refugees impacted all sectors in the country including health and education," the prime minister said at a conference on refugees, security and development in the Middle East.

"The Syrian crisis is an unprecedented one. It brought destruction and chaos to the whole region and millions of Syrians were made either displaced in their own country or refugees in neighboring countries or in Europe," said Ensour.

The prime minister said the conflicts in the Middle East created humanitarian crises and it will take a long time to address these crises that affect sustainable development in the region.
