France and Spain object to separate negotiations in Scotland with the EU

French President Francois Hollande and the Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy strongly oppose the idea to keep Scotland in the EU – bypassing of results of a British national referendum.

«If the United Kingdom leaves the EU, Scotland should not remain», – quotes the words of Rajoy, the news service of the BBC.

Hollande also said that the European Alliance should not conduct separate negotiations with Scotland. Note that the head of the government, Nicola Sturgeon arrives on June 29 in Brussels for meetings with EU officials that it will ask to protect the national interests of her country, where the majority of citizens did not support Brexit.

Recall that the ratio of supporters and opponents of the so-called Brexit was 52% to 48%, but among the Scots it was different: 62% are willing to stay in the EU and only 39% want him to leave.

Earlier this week, said Sturgeon: Holyrood has the ability and tries to block the exit of great Britain from the European Alliance, which was supported by the citizens of the United Kingdom in a referendum.

She also advocated the holding of a second referendum on independence is to withdraw Scotland from the United Kingdom. A new poll suggests that the idea supports around 60% of Scots.

In an interview with Gordon Brewer, presenter of Sunday Politics Scotland, coming on the BBC news channel, the Sturgeon, the leader of the Scottish national party, which in the regional Parliament consists of 63 seats out of 129, reported that the Scottish parliamentarians will «try» to block a British exit from the European Union.

She stated that she personally asked the deputies not to give «legal consent» to break relations with continental Europe. The Minister said that for the sake of protecting national interests intends to engage in direct dialogue with Brussels in the next few days.

Recall that in 2014, Scotland held a referendum on independence, and 55% of the citizens voted to remain part of the United Kingdom.

But today the situation has changed: «The UK, where he would remain Scotland during a vote in 2014, no longer exists. The only question is how we should protect the interests and stability of our country.»

The first Minister also said that Scotland withdraw from the EU against the will of the population expressing confidence that Brexit is fraught for the British «devastating consequences.»
