US Troops' Presence in Syria without Syrian Government's Permission an Aggression on the Syrian Sovereignty

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates
The presence of American or whatsoever troops in Syria without the permission of the Syrian government is an aggression on the Syrian sovereignty and a flagrant violation of UN charter and principles, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Tuesday.

The source was commenting on remarks by the US Defense Secretary John Mattis on the presence of US troops in Syria.

In a statement to SANA, the source said that the United States has claimed that its troops' intervention in Syria aimed at fighting the Daesh terrorist organization, which is nowadays taking its last breathes in the country thanks to the achievements and sacrifices of the Syrian army, its allies and back up forces.

"Linking the US troops' presence in Syria to the political settlement is nothing but a pretext to justify such presence and it is categorically unacceptable because the United States and other countries won't impose any solution by military action, on the contrary, this presence will prolong and complicate the crisis and this is the real purpose of the US presence in Syria," the source added.

It went on to say that the US defense secretary's remarks came to stress the destructive agenda and role of the American administration in Syria through its evident collusion with Deash terrorist organization and other terrorist groups and through continuous attempts to undermine all solution efforts as to aggravate tension in the region in the service of the Zionist project and as to impose hegemony over the region's countries and resources.

The Syrian Arab Republic renews its call for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of American forces from the Syrian territories, because the US troops presence in Syria is an aggression on Syria's sovereignty and independence and it will be dealt with on this basis, the source concluded.
