Greeks work longest hours in eurozone .... OECD survey shows them to spend more time working than peers and to have lowest income in bloc

Greeks work more than other eurozone citizens and are paid less, which predictably places them among the least satisfied people among 36 nations surveyed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Greeks are the third least satisfied with their lives in the survey, given that in most indexes they are below the OECD country average. The only nations to be even less satisfied are the Portuguese and the Hungarians, the survey found. The Swiss top the list.

‘Intrigue’ Persists in Hunt for Antarctic Subglacial Life

MOSCOW, March 1 (Alexey Eremenko, RIA Novosti) – Russian researchers have successfully obtained ice samples from the ancient Lake Vostok in the Antarctic, but said on Friday it would take months to clarify whether life exists in the fossil water below the 3.5-kilometer (2.2 mile) high glacier.
“Let’s maintain the intrigue a little longer,” Vladimir Lipenkov, a climatologist at Russia’s Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, quipped at a RIA Novosti press conference.

Η νέα κυβέρνηση της Ιαπωνίας βρίσκεται μόλις έναν μήνα στην εξουσία, αλλά ήδη ο υπουργός Οικονομικών προσέβαλε δεκάδες εκατομμύρια ψηφοφόρους λέγοντας ότι οι ηλικιωμένοι είναι ένα «περιττό βάρος για την οικονομία» της χώρας του ανατέλλοντος ηλίου.

Η προκλητική δήλωση του Τάρο Ασο έχει εξοργίσει τον κόσμο στην Ιαπωνία, όπου σχεδόν ένας στους τέσσερις από τους 128 εκατ. πολίτες είναι άνω των 60 ετών. Το ποσοστό των ηλικιωμένων αναμένεται να αυξηθεί στο 40% τα επόμενα 50 χρόνια.
