World leaders had mixed reactions Tuesday to President Donald Trump's fiery speech at the United Nations General Assembly -- his first to the world body.

Venezuelan President Urges Peaceful Conduct of Opposition’s Referendum

The opposition’s referendum will question the legitimacy of the National Constituent Assembly, called by Maduro, and the need for the elections in Venezuela. However, the country's National Electoral Council said that results of the referendum will not have legal force as only the electoral authorities have the right to hold such events. The opposition in response referred to Article 71 of the constitution, which allows holding consultative surveys.

Angola, Malaysia, New Zealand, Spain and Venezuela elected to serve on UN Security Council

UN, 16 October 2014 – In three rounds of voting the United Nations General Assembly today elected Angola, Malaysia, New Zealand, Spain and Venezuela to serve as non-permanent members on the Security Council for two-year terms beginning on 1 January 2015.
The new members will serve on the Council until 31 December 2016.
Angola Malaysia, Venezuela and New Zealand were elected in the first vote. The Assembly then held two rounds of restricted balloting to elect Spain to fill the remaining seat on the Council open to the Western European and Other States Group. Turkey was the other contender for that seat.

Muere Hugo Chávez

El presidente venezolano, Hugo Chávez, falleció en Caracas este martes a los 58 años de edad, informó el vicepresidente Nicolás Maduro. Desde que le fue detectado un tumor, en junio de 2011, durante una de sus visitas a La Habana, el caudillo bolivariano que gobernaba Venezuela desde 1999 fue operado cuatro veces, que se sepa, pero al final el cáncer fue más fuerte que él. Chávez se sometió a tratamientos con radio y quimioterapia. aunque la mayor parte de la asistencia médica recibida fue mantenida en secreto. En todo este tiempo incluso se negó a revelar qué tipo de cáncer padecía y qué órganos de su cuerpo habían sido afectados por la enfermedad.

Maduro acusa a los enemigos de Venezuela de enfermar a Chávez.

El vicepresidente de la República venezolana, Nicolás Maduro, está ofreciendo una comparecencia pública retransmitida en televisión en la que ha acusado a los enemigos de Venezuela de llevar a cabo planes para desestabilizar el país. Maduro ha asegurado que en el futuro una comisión de investigación revelará que la enfermedad del presidente Hugo Chávez fue provocada por los "enemigos de la patria".

Maduro ha anunciado, asimismo, la expulsión de un un agregado militar de la embajada estadounidense, David del Mónaco, por intentar captar a militares venezolanos "para desestabilizar al país".
