AFP - Des dizaines de milliers de personnes ont manifesté
dimanche en Grèce, encadrées par de nombreux policiers, pour marquer le
40e anniversaire du soulèvement étudiant contre la dictature des
colonels et protester contre la politique d'austérité du gouvernement. A Athènes, au moins 12.000 manifestants, selon la police, ont défilé,
comme chaque année, jusqu'à l'ambassade des Etats-Unis, accusés d'avoir
soutenu la junte des colonels. Le défilé, qui s'est déroulé sans incidents, était canalisé par pas moins de 6.000 policiers anti-émeutes.
"La commission européenne n'a pas à
dicter ce que nous avons à faire." François Hollande a répliqué sur un

is now little more than a rubber stamp for the Troika, the generic name
for the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the
European Union, the three powers to which the country is in hock. Things are bad. Ireland’s debt to GDP ratio is set to reach 122 percent
in 2013, above the 120 percent threshold the IMF considers
unsustainable. The total debt of the country, according to
an Irish Times report, is €192 billion, four times what it was in 2007,
with a projected need to borrow a further €34 billion before 2015.
Την Πέμπτη 20 Δεκεμβρίου, γιά διάφορες
δουλειές γύρισα όλη την Αθήνα. Πήγα Αμπελόκηπους, Αλεξάνδρας, Ομόνοια,
Σύνταγμα, Κολωνάκι, Κεραμεικό, Θησείο. Δεν είδα πολλούς μετανάστες, αλλά
κυρίως Έλληνες, ένα απαθλιωμένο, κακοντυμένο, δυστυχισμένο πλήθος, που
θύμιζε φωτογραφίες από την κατοχή. Παντού βρώμα, σκουπίδια, πλήθη
αστέγων, ζητιάνοι, άνθρωποι που κοιμόντουσαν σε κιβώτια σε στοές ή
τυλιγμένοι με κουβέρτες σε εισόδους πολυκατοικιών, αδέσποτα σκυλιά.
Σκέτη φρίκη. Κατέβηκα πεζός την Ερμού, μέχρι την Ασωμάτων έβλεπα
συνέχεια κλειστά ή άδεια μαγαζιά. Στον Κεραμεικό μικροπωλητές χωρίς
πελάτες, εστιατόρια της πάλαι ποτέ διαλαμψάσης τουριστικής εποχής
περίμεναν μάταια πελατεία. Αυτή δεν ήταν η Αθήνα, ήταν μία τριτοκοσμική
πόλη. Όταν γύρισα τα Βαλκάνια ανάμεσα σε δύο πολέμους, το 1997, οι
πόλεις τους, αν και πάμπτωχες, δεν ήταν σε τέτοια κατάσταση.
