Mass 'executions' in Syria could be war crime: UN

GENEVA: Extremist Islamic groups in Syria are committing a "soaring" number of killings in the country's north that could amount to war crimes, the UN human rights office said on Thursday.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay says that over the past two weeks her office has received reports of "a succession of mass executions of civilians and fighters who were no longer participating in hostilities in Aleppo, Idlib and Raqqa by hardline armed opposition groups in Syria, in particular by the" al-Qaida linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

She warned that such killings violate international humanitarian law, and the numbers of such violations are thought to be alarmingly high.

UN agency condemns Israeli demolition of Arab homes, urges adherence to international law


26 December 2013 – The United Nations agency assisting Palestinian refugees today condemned Israel’s latest demolitions in the West Bank which have displaced 68 people, including 32 children, in the depths of winter, saying it is violating international law and calling on it to abide by its obligations.
“Because of these demolitions, which violate international law, these historically self-sufficient communities have been forced to endure the pitiless seasonal weather in inadequate housing, entirely dependent on international assistance,” the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said of the demolitions which took place on Christmas Eve in Ein Ayoub near Ramallah and Fasayil Al Wusta near Jericho in the Jordan valley.

Argentina y Chile ganan la pelea por el dominio ".patagonia" en Internet. La marca de ropa estadounidense desistió de seguir adelante con un reclamo para usar esa denominación.

 Chile y Argentina lograron detener el pedido de una empresa textil estadounidense para quedarse con el dominio ".patagonia", en un reclamo ante la Corporación de Internet para la Asignación de Nombres y Números (ICANN), indicó una fuente del gobierno chileno."La empresa textil estadounidense Patagonia Inc., dedicada a la indumentaria deportiva, declinó el 10 de julio insistir en la obtención del dominio '.patagonia', solicitado el año pasado ante la ICANN", señaló un comunicado de la Dirección de Relaciones Económicas Internacionales (Direcon) de la cancillería chilena.
