Turkey complains of a lack of international coalition aerial support in Syria

Turkey complained on Monday about an alleged lack of air support from the international coalition in its operation against the Islamic State, which has been concentrated for several weeks in the Syrian city of al-Bab.

Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told reporters in Ankara that without legitimate reason it was unacceptable not to give air support, referring to the international coalition led by the United States.

According to CNNTurk, the spokesman accused the coalition of not fulfilling its responsibilities.

Kalin stressed that Turkey had intensified its operation around al-Bab and that with the support of the Free Syrian Army, 226 IS fighters were killed over the last week.

  • On the other hand, he insinuated that overthrowing the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad might have ceased to be a priority for Turkey.

For years, Erdogan had defended the toppling of Syria's al-Assad.
