UN Security Council action on Palestinian statehood blocked
UN, 30 December 2014 – Falling short of the required number of positive
votes and faced with a veto from one of its permanent members, the
United Nations Security Council today failed to adopt a draft resolution
that would have affirmed the “urgent need” to reach within 12 months a
peaceful solution to the situation in the Middle East and would have
paved the way to a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Asia Marks 10th Anniversary of Tsunami (UN says world better prepared for natural disasters)
Beach
side memorials, moments of silence, and religious services are planned
across Asia on Friday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean
tsunami that killed at least 220,000 people in 2004.
The gigantic wave stuck a dozen countries around the Indian Ocean rim. It destroyed entire coastal communities, wiped out families and crashed over tourist-filled beaches the morning after Christmas.

UN, 19 September 2014 – Two months after the crash of a Malaysia Airlines flight over Ukraine that killed 298 people on board, the top United Nations political official updated the Security Council on developments related to the investigation of the incident.
“While the cease-fire in south-eastern Ukraine, thus far, is holding, contributing to a marked de-escalation on the ground, the conditions are still not conducive for investigators to have full and unfettered access to the site,” said Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman.

absence of war, United Nations officials today stressed the need for

UN, 28 July 2014 – The shooting down of a Malaysian Airlines plane over eastern Ukraine may amount to a war crime, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights today said today, releasing a new report that details a total breakdown of law and order and a reign of fear and terror inflicted by armed groups in the area.

Israel confirms it fired into UN shelter in Gaza (denied killing anyone at the site)
The Israeli army has confirmed it fired a mortar round into a Gaza UN
shelter where 15 people died on Thursday, but denied killing anyone at
the site.
Briefing journalists on the findings of an internal military inquiry into the incident at a UN school in Beit Hanun, spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said militants "in the vicinity" of the school fired mortar rounds and anti-tank rockets at Israeli forces.
The army responded with mortar fire, sending a stray round into the compound, he said.
"A single errant mortar [round] landed in the courtyard of the school," he said.
"The courtyard was completely empty" at the time of the incident, he added.

UN Security Council calls for Israeli-Palestinian ceasefire
The UN Security Council called for a ceasefire in hostilities between Israel and Palestinians on Saturday, expressing its deep concern over the welfare and protection of civilians on both sides of the conflict.
“The Security Council members called for de-escalation of the situation, restoration of calm, and reinstitution of the November 2012 ceasefire,” the 15-member body said in a statement.
It also called for the respect of international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians.
The Security Council’s statement came as Israel rushed an eighth missile interceptor battery into service on Saturday to counter stronger-than-expected rocket fire from Gaza, and the military struck positions in the Palestinian enclave for a fifth day.
