At least 42 people died Wednesday as a boat carrying 600 migrants capsized off the coast of Egypt, officials said.
Another 150 people have been rescued from the water.
The MENA state news agency quoted officials as saying that "an illegal migration boat has capsized off the coast of Kafr al-Sheiklh carrying 600 migrants in the largest illegal migration operation through the Kafr al-Sheikh coast so far."
Security sources told Reuters that the boat carried a mix of Syrian, Egyptian and African migrants.
The latest sinking comes a day after the UN said that more than 300,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean to Europe so far this year.
