Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that with the terrorist groups completely eradicated in Syria the US forces should leave the country.
Speaking to the Russian Interfax news agency on Thursday, Lavrov added that the presence of the American forces is not approved by the UN Security, nor are they welcomed by the Syrian government.
Therefore, he said, the American forces should leave the Syrian territory once the remnants of the terrorists are completely eliminated from Syria.
The Russian foreign minister predicted that the victory over the terrorists will come in the near future.
Resolving the Syrian crisis peacefully was one of the key priorities to Russia's foreign policy in the past year, Lavrov said, adding that it was realized through cooperation with Iran and Turkey in Astana talks.
The ceasefire between government forces and the oppositions was achieved as a result of the talks in Kazakhstan, he said.
The ceasefire provided the Syrian forces with the opportunity to defeat the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS).
The eighth round of the Astana talks was held on December 21-22 in the Kazakh capital. The three peace guarantors—Iran, Turkey and Russia— announced at the end of the negotiations that a fourth track of talks will be held in Russia's Sochi in January 2018.
