Russian MoD: Any airstrikes on territory controlled by Syrian government will create clear threat to Russian forces

Russian Defense Ministry affirmed that any airstrikes or missiles hitting targets in territory controlled by the Syrian government will create a clear threat to Russian forces operating in Syria, calling on the US army to conduct a thorough calculation of the possible consequences of such plans.

In a press conference on Thursday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson General Igor Konashenkov said that any airstrike or missile hitting targets in territory controlled by the Syrian government will create a clear threat to Russian servicemen, adding that Russia will take necessary measures to protect Russian military from any hits like the airstrikes launched by US-led coalition on the Syrian army positions near Deir Ezzor.

The Russian military official reminded Americans that the S-400 and S-300 systems which offer air protection for military bases in Tartous and Hmeimim will be considered as a surprise to any unknown flying object.

He pointed out that the crews of Russian air defense systems will not have enough time to determine the exact flight paths of missiles and the platforms that launched them if the sites of the Syrian army exposed to new strikes.

“All the illusions of amateurs about the existence of ‘invisible’ jets will face a disappointing reality,” he noted.
