Syrian Army Hasn't Used Chemical Materials in Khan Shaikhoun: General Command

The Syrian army has not used chemical materials in Khan Shaikhoun town in  Idlib countryside, the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces has stressed, denying claims by some media outlets about using chemical materials by the army in the above mentioned town.

“Stability is still very far away. Apparently, after the elections the prevailing presence of right-wing parties inside the Verkhovna Rada will be used as a pretext for an offensive (against Donetsk and Luhansk regions),” Chiesa said.

"The centrality given to false claims of Russian aggression and incursions by our troops and armoured vehicles in discussions of the crisis in Ukraine raises a number of serious questions.
Why do those clamouring for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council consistently block our proposals for a comprehensive discussion of the origins of the Ukrainian tragedy and for collective action on a solution that serves the interests of all Ukrainian people, and instead treat Ukraine like a bargaining chip in unilateral geopolitical schemes?

EU warns Putin against action in Ukraine, including humanitarian. Russia said on Monday it had reached an agreement with Ukraine

BRUSSELS: European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso warned Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call on Monday (Aug 11) against any unilateral intervention in Ukraine, including for humanitarian reasons.

"Speaking with President Putin, President Barroso said that the EU would join in international efforts to assist people in need as a result of the conflict," a commission statement said. "President Barroso warned against any unilateral military actions in Ukraine, under any pretext, including humanitarian," it added.

Lavrov Says Hysterical US Policy Makes Russia Consider Appropriate Response

Russia will be obliged to take retaliatory measures if the West continues its sanctions policy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

“If the West continues these absolutely non-professional hysterical policies, we would have to think what we can do in return,” Lavrov said during an English-language interview with Bloomberg.

The minister, however, emphasized that Russia was not looking for confrontations and would not like to parrot Western countries’ behavior.

“We are not looking for confrontation and we don’t want to mimic the hectic gestures made by Washington, Brussels, some other capitals, reluctantly most of them, by the way,” Lavrov stressed.

Syrian opposition asks for anti-aircraft arms from US. -- Washington has consistently resisted previous requests

The head of the Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary and Opposition Forces called for the U.S. to supply anti-aircraft weapons to rebels who have been dealt serious blows by Syrian President Bashar al Assad’s air force.

“We do have a problem with the air forces, the air raids and the barrel bombs,” said Ahmad Jarba, the president of the Syrian National Coalition while speaking at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington Wednesday. “This is making our life a nightmare, so we want weapons that will be able to neutralize the air force.”

Lawrow: Westen war jahrelang um Abkehr der Ukraine von Russland bemüht...

Der Westen hat sich jahrelang darum bemüht, die Ukraine von Russland „loszureißen“, wie der russische Außenminister Sergej Lawrow am Sonntag in einem Interview für den Ersten Fernsehkanal sagte.

„Es entsteht ein Gefühl, dass unsere Kollegen im Westen (…) jahrelang Bedingungen für eine Abkehr der Ukraine von Russland geschaffen haben.

Ukraine and the Council of Europe have agreed joint actions to block Russia's aggression in Crimea, Ukraine's acting President Oleksandr Turchynov says.

Ukraine's acting President and Parliament Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov has met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland and Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz to discuss and exchange views on the latest developments in Ukraine.
Joint actions with the Council of Europe have been agreed and an active dialogue about cooperation with the IMF is taking place, a statement from Turchynov said.

Churkin: Syrian Opposition used chemical weapons in a bid to provoke Western invasion ....

UNITED NATIONS, December 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin has said that chemical attacks in Syria, including the one in Guta on August 21, were staged by the Syrian Opposition, which was trying to provoke armed intervention by Western countries. 

Churkin was speaking at a meeting of the UN General Assembly behind closed doors on Friday. A transcript of his statement has been circulated by Russia’s permanent mission at the United Nations.
